Srinagar, June 12: As the situation with regard to the COVID-19 eases out, the peripheral non-COVID healthcare facilities across Kashmir Division were today directed to resume elective routine surgeries while SKIMS Soura has also decided to allow regulated patient influx to its Out Patient Department (OPD).
With regard to the resumption of elective routine surgeries across hospitals falling under the administrative control of the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK), all the CMOs, BMOs and Medical Superintendents have been directed to resume the services amid strict adherence to the COVID SOPs.
In this regard, a circular was issued by the Director Health Services, Kashmir which stated: “…In the interest of better patient care, it is impressed upon all Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents & Block Medical Officers under the Administrative control of this Directorate to resume conducting of elective routine surgeries in their respective Non-Covid health institutions forthwith…”
The Directorate said that the decision has been taken keeping in view the decline in the number of Covid-19 positive cases reported from across the Kashmir Division.
On the other side, while the SKIMS Soura had earlier started the teleconsultation for the patients after shutting down the OPDs and the elective routine surgeries, its Advisory Committee has decided to allow the regulated entry of the patients in its OPD which houses all the specialities.
An official told Excelsior that while no decision has been taken on resuming the elective routine surgeries, it has been decided that each speciality will see 20 patients each in the OPD with strict adherence to the COVID SOPs.
Notably, the teleconsultation service for the patients who would otherwise visit the OPD will continue to remain in service till the OPDs are made functionally entirely.
On the other hand, while the SKIMS, Bemina has not taken any decision regarding the resumption of the OPD services there, the hospital administration is going to take a call in this regard in the next couple of weeks.
The same is going to be the case with the GMC, Srinagar’s SMHS hospital which has witnessed a decrease in the number of COVID patients along with other hospitals. Also, several tertiary care hospitals are pressing hard to shift the admitted patients to the newly started DRDO hospital in Srinagar so that they could start the normal patient care services.
