ReT Teachers Forum threatens agitation, demands release of salary

SRINAGAR, June 18: Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) Teachers Forum  has threatened to stage district-wise protests and call for ‘Secretariat gherao’ if the Government fails to release their wages.
State general secretary, JKRETF, Farooq Ahmad Tantary, said that the Government is forcing us to take to streets as it has failed to release salaries of SSA teachers on monthly basis.
Tantray blamed the State Government for delaying their payments. “SSA scheme is funded by both State and Central Government in the ratio of 65:35. As the State Government failed to release funds for our salaries, the Centre also stopped releasing funds for our salaries,” he said.
Earlier, thousands of teachers’ observed strike in different districts of Kashmir to press the Government for their regularization of Education Volunteers (EV’s) and Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) Teachers.
The teachers said that they were selected in every village and Mohallah on merit basis during the PDP and Congress Coalition Government and were promised that EV’s will be converted ReTs after two years of service on monthly stipend of Rs 1250. In this regard Government released orders on different times, viz order number edu/acad/15/2006 dated 16-03-2006; Dsak/plg/up-grd/EGS-ps/2007; Edu/spd/ssa/up-grd/7800/902 dated 16-03-2007.
