SRINAGAR June 14: As the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) is facing acute shortage of drivers, it has failed to appoint drivers whose vacancies were advertised in 2017.
The disappointed and dejected aspirants who have been waiting for long have finally knocked the door of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for redressal of their grievances as they say that SKIMS hires private drivers but has kept the selection of drivers on hold.
The SKIMS advertised 37 vacancies of drivers to strengthen its Transport Section (Advt No. 4 of 2017, dated 17 June 2017) and 659 eligible candidates were called for driving test in January 2020 and 185 candidates shortlisted vide Notice No. SIMS 302 /13/18/09/2018-3105-3112 dt 28.8.2020.
As per the official records of the SKIMS, 3 candidates despite qualifying the driving test were missing from short listed candidates. The SKIMS (vide an Addendum No. SIMS 302 /13/18/09/2018-3295-3302 dated 5.9.2020) later added these 3 candidates -Jehangir Ahmad Shapoo, Ashiq Hussain Magrey and Rayees Ahmad Bado to the shortlisted candidates after they raised objections. Later, 188 candidates were interviewed on 25 and 26 Sep 2020 but no selection list has been issued so far.
The candidates have now approached the LG Manoj Sinha and have sent a representation to Advisor Health, Chief Secretary and others with the grievance that despite interviews held nine months ago the SKIMS administration is not issuing the select list and instead hiring drivers for the transport.
Theys said that SKIMS could have done selection on fast-track basis as it has its own selection committee and had to do selection of a handful of vacancies unlike SSRB.
They said that the selection of drivers could have cut the expenditure on engaging private drivers on contract basis. The aspirants question such a selection process from 2017 till date.
