JAMMU, June 21: Residents of Ward numbers 47 and 48 of Bahu Fort area today staged protest demonstration against the PHE Department at Central Boria Pumping Station Kalika Colony Bahu Fort and demanded proper supply of potable water.
They were chanting slogans against the PHE department and in favour of their demands.
They put forth various demands including increasing timing of water supply as well as construction of new Overhead Tank for proper water supply of the said areas.
Later, the officers of Jal Shakti Department namely Rajinder Khajuria- XEN Civil Division, Vijay Suman Gupta- XEN Mechanical Division along with concerned AEEs and JEs visited the protest site and assured the protestors for maintaining proper water supply of the said areas.
Addressing the protestors, Sham Lal Basson, Councillor of Ward 48 said that there is acute shortage of drinking water in Bahu Fort area since long time and in this regards, they informed the department concerned repeatedly but the department failed to resolve the problem so far.
“I met with Advisor to then Governor of erstwhile State of J& K, Khursheed Ahmed Ganai along with prominent persons of Bahu Fort including Sharda Devi, Corporator Ward 47 in the year of 2019 and he directed the then Commissioner Secretary Ajeet Kumar Sahu as well as Chief Engineer PHE to resolve the problem but unfortunately the department concerned still failed to do so,” he alleged.
Few days back, the Councillor Sharda Devi also apprised the JMC Mayor regarding the problems being faced by the locals of Bahu Fort areas and subsequently, the Mayor directed the Chief Engineer concerned for resolving the same problem but nobody paid heed to the matter so far, the protestors said.
