JAMMU, June 22: Chairman Public Health and Sanitation Committee (PHSC) of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Narinder Singh Jamwal has directed the officials of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Sub Division Narwal to initiate proactive measures to address drinking water scarcity issue in different areas at the earliest.
He was addressing these officials during a meeting convened at Town Hall here today. The meeting was called to discuss the problems being faced by the people due to water scarcity because of multiple factors including leakage.
Besides the PHE officials, including the engineers, the meeting was also attended by Corporators of various Wards and included Anil Kumar of Ward No: 68, Gurmeet Kour Randhawa of Ward No: 69, Sobat Ali of Ward No: 74, Kamal Singh Jamwal of Ward No: 49, Raj Kumar of Ward No: 51, Ajay Gupta of Ward No: 52, Neena Gupta of Ward No: 50, Pritam Singh of Ward No: 55 and Sham Lal of Ward No: 48.
After threadbare discussions and deliberations during the meeting, the Chairman PHSC Narinder Singh Jamwal directed the concerned JEs to visit the areas affected by water scarcity and assess the existing situation on ground. He asked the PHE officials to immediately disconnect illegal connections if any found in these areas without showing any leniency against the law violators. He also conveyed to them that without any delay they must also identify those having installed ground water pumps in residential areas and take stern action against them for depleting ground water table. He insisted on checking the car washing points running without permission from PHE in different wards and those found without valid permission be punished under the relevant law. Moreover, he added, first and foremost all the leakage points in the supply lines should be plugged. He said that by resorting to such exercise there will be no wastage of water and consequently drinking water scarcity issue will get automatically addressed.
The PHE officials in presence of the Corporators assured to initiate proactive measures as suggested by the PHSC Chairman so that the significant issue is resolved at the earliest.
