Police officer martyred in militant attack

Jammu. June 22: A police Inspector was this evening martyred in a militant attack in Nowgam area of Srinagar when he was on way to nearby Masjid.
The police Inspector identified as Parvez Ahmad Dar of B K Pora in Nowgam was fired upon by the suspected militants.
He was returning home from a local Masjid in the evening when militants fired at him, injuring him critically. The Inspector was rushed to SMHS hospital in Srinagar where he was declared as brought dead.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that at about 8 pm, two militants fired indiscriminately upon the Police officer in front of local mosque while he was going for prayer at Menganwari Nowgam area of district Srinagar.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that two militants fired upon him from pistols. “The CCTV footage showed firing by two terrorists with pistols. Identification is being done. Suspects are being questioned”, he added.
Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this attack.
IGP Kashmir, DIG CKR and SSP Srinagar reached at the spot and a massive operation has been launched in the area against the militants responsible for the killing of the officer. They paid tributes to the officer.
The Resistance Front claimed the attack on the police officer. They warned more such attacks against the police.
He is survived by wife Fatima, 13-year-old daughter Pakeeza and 10 year old son Azaan Pervaiz.
In the meantime, the rifle that was recovered from one of the three militants killed at Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday, was snatched by militants during a shootout at Lawaypora on March this year.
IGP Kashmir tweeted: “Rifle recovered from LeT # militant Khurshid Mir, who was killed in Sopore #encounter is same as the one snatched in Lawaypora attack, in which 3 CRPF personnel were killed.”
The IGP said that another militant who was also involved in the attack and has been identified as Nadeem Abrar will be killed soon.
Militants this afternoon hurled a petrol bomb at Police Station Khanyar in Old City area of Srinagar. However, no injury was reported in the incident.
A petrol bomb was hurled at the Police Station here this afternoon, creating panic in the locality.
They said no loss of life or injury was reported during the incident while the search has been launched to nab the attackers.
