PM must follow his words: Mehboob Beg

SRINAGAR, June 26: Senior leader and PDP’s organizational general secretary, Dr Mehboob Beg has called upon Prime Minister Modi to walk the talk on his ‘Dilli ki doori-Dil ki doori’ remark and take urgent and much needed confidence building measures.
In a press statement here Beg said, the Prime Minister need not look any further and should only look to his ‘Dilli ki doori-Dil ki doori’ remark and build on the same. All that Kashmir has been through before and after August 5, 2019 was brought to the notice of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister by party president Mehbooba Mufti and it appears the same hit the right chord and the PM came up with a response like he did.
“This should now not remain a mere slogan and must translate into positive confidence building measures and the people of Jammu and Kashmir must see the difference on ground. The people are anxious, wary like never before and the trust deficit is now at its worst. I do not see how people will even consider putting their apprehensions aside till they see slogans translating into reality. Should good intentions prevail, the PM’s statement encompasses within its expanse every possible confidence building measure,” PDP leader added.
“There is no denying that there has been ‘Dilli ki doori-Dil ki doori’ and even more-so post August 5th, 2019, the same must be bridged by way of adopting some confidence building measures and the same could begin by releasing political prisoners languishing in jails, some without any concrete evidence and as the party president put-forth even those with serious charges must be shifted within the state,” he added.
“What possible basis could one have for making the delimitation process applicable only and only to J&K? People are bound to feel anxious if the most empowered state is suddenly demoted to a Union Territory, all this has definitely ensured ‘Dilli se doori’ and let us see the beginning of removing this ‘doori’ by addressing these minor issues to begin with,” he said.
“These are by no means the only issues but one can only hope that the PM initiates the process to remove what he has himself acknowledged as an increasing gap between the people of J&K and the rest of the country – both emotionally and politically,” Beg added.
