KATHUA, June 26: Farmers of Block Barnoti today staged a protest demonstration against Ravi-Tawi Irrigation Department (RTID).
Protesting farmers alleged that RTID has failed to maintain the irrigation water supply in Ravi Canal.
The protest was staged at the office of XEn RTID and it was led by Sarpanch Om Prakash.
The protesters raised slogans against RTID and flayed the poor work culture in the department which delayed water in Ravi Canal thereby affecting the paddy crop. Sarpanch Om Parkash said five pumps have been setup at Lakhanpur and Basantpur Lift Stations to maintain the flow of 600 cusec irrigation water.
“There is peak paddy season and crops are turning dry due to hot weather. Unfortunately the RTID is in deep slumber,” Parkash said adding that only two pumps are being run so far by the RTID.
The Civil wing of RTID accused the Mechanical Wing for not running all the five water pumps.
The protesting farmers warned RTID of consequences if their crops got damaged.
