KOLAR, KARNATAKA, June 22: Union Minister of State for MSME, K. H. Muniyappa inaugurated Canara Bank mega Rural Outreach Programme here yesterday.
Kolar was among the selected few districts in the country to have the distinction of having a 100 per cent coverage under No frill acocunts with over 3.36 households, as per 2011 census. The total number of no-frill accounts in the district is 10,90,505.
In his address Mr Muniyappa highlighted the host of activities undertaken for benefitting the common people of the district. These include provision and micro and small enterprises loans to 1110, creidt linking 200 Self-Help Groups, Providing in-built OD facilities to 3200 beneficiaries RuPay Kisan Credit Cards to 5200 beneficiaries – under this scheme the agriculture customers can draw loan amount through ATM for purchase of agriculture inputs though cards.
He stated that 32,696 Kisan credit cards have been issued to farmers in Kolar district and the cumulative amount of loan given is around Rs. 281 crore. He emphasized the crucial role of micro, small and medium enterprises in our economy and said banks should walk the last mile, provide all supports & hand-hold these micro and small enterprises in particular to spur economic activities. He stressed that easy and hassle flow and availability of credit through banks will help bridge the gap between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’.
Canara Bank, a leading nationalized bank in India, has taken several steps in the recent past to enhance banking access to rural areas and promoting financial inclusion across the country.
