JAMMU, July 1: National Doctor’s Day was observed today by various educational and health institutions, besides associations of doctors and others to express gratitude to doctors’ fraternity for their selfless service during 1st and 2nd wave of Corona Pandemic.
To mark the occasion, Indian Medical Association (IMA) today felicitated 6 doctors from J&K as COVID Warriors in recognition of their hard work during the COVID pandemic. The doctors from Jammu & Kashmir who have been awarded include Prof (Dr) A G Ahangar, (Director SKIMS, Srinagar), Prof (Dr) Samia Rashid (Principal/Dean, GMC Srinagar), Prof (Dr) Vijay Kundal (HoD, General Medicine, GMC, Jammu), Prof (Dr) Mohammad Saleem Khan (HoD Community Medicine/Nodal Officer COVID-19, GMC Srinagar) and Dr Shafa Deva (MS, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Srinagar).
On the occasion, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Rather remembered the sacrifices of doctors across India and in Jammu and Kashmir during the COVID-19 pandemic. A spokesperson of the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir said the Director praised doctors and other medical professionals for playing a lead role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. “Today, on National Doctor’s Day, we salute the efforts of our doctors who serve humanity despite the pandemic situation,” Dr Mushtaq said in his message.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) wished “Happy Doctor’s Day” to all the frontline workers who are working day in and out to serve the people during these testing hard times of Covid-19 Pandemic. President DAK Dr Mohd Yusuf Tak said that J&K Health and Medical Education Department has managed both 1st and 2nd COVID waves effectively and much better than other states, and the credit for this goes to selfless work of all employees of Health and Medical Education Department from top to bottom.
NSS unit of Government College of Education (GCOE) Jammu organised an activity to celebrate National Doctors’ Day.
The students were asked to express their gratitude towards doctors by sharing their comments on the Padlet application. Students enthusiastically shared their ideas, views and comments on the App. They also prepared a video message and sent their wishes to the doctors on their special day.
Later, their messages of gratitude and video were mailed to the doctors of GMC Hospital, Jammu. Dr Shubhra Jamwal, NSS PO efficiently organised the activity with the help of NSS volunteers.
Prof (Dr) Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the College, lauded the efforts of college staff and volunteers and emphasised upon the importance of such events.
Prof Shapia Shameem, Prof Seema Kumari and Prof Sarita Dogra were the staff members who heartedly participated in the event. The volunteers who contributed in the successful organization of the event include Priya Chivalry Singh, Suvidha Sambyal, Sabya and Charu Manhas.
To commemorate the Day, Amandeep Healthcare Private Limited (AHPL) paid rich tributes to doctors across the world, who laid down their lives while being at the vanguards of the fight against COVID-19. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Amandeep Kaur, Director, AHPL and Dr Avtar Singh, Chairman, Department of Orthpaedics and Joint Replacement, AHPL, said, “The sacrifices of the martyred physicians speak volumes about the nobleness of our calling. They will always continue to inspire us to give our best shot to our profession come what may.”
To observe National Doctor’s Day, Advocate Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor JMC, honoured several doctors and health workers working at various vaccination centers across Jammu. Those honoured by the Deputy Mayor include Dr Geeta Dutta, Dr Megna Sharma, Dr Ruchi Gupta, Raj Devi, Trishna Devi, Neelam Devi, Reeta, Sunil Kumar, M K Bhat, Vishal and Naizer.
On the occasion, a team of BJP OBC Morcha comprising Anju Dogra (Seh Prabhari, JK UT), Gopal Toni (general secretary) and others honoured a number of doctors including Chief Medical Officer Jammu Dr J P Singh and ADMO ISM Dr Suresh Verma in various Government health institutions of Jammu.
National Doctor’s Day was also celebrated by senior wing cadets of 2 J&K Girls Battalion NCC, Government College for Women, Parade. The day started with various activities and presentations by the cadets like poetry, slogans and posters. They pledged to be respectful not only towards doctors but other people who serve the humanity.
NCC Senior wing cadets and BSc IInd Semester students of GGM Science College Jammu in collaboration GDC Ramgarh organized an online webinar to observe the Day. Resource person Dr Shahnaz Bhutt, Incharge Centre Police Lines, Jammu threw light on the ins and outs of present day scenario arising due to the pandemic. The speaker dealt in detail about the measures to be taken to overcome stress and loneliness by doing meditation and exercise.
NSS unit of GDC Kathua observed National Doctor’s Day to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of great physician and second chief minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. The volunteers of NSS visited dispensaries, primary health centres, sub district hospitals and Government Medical College Kathua and presented greetings cards, flowers and sweets to doctors and other health staff to express their gratitude to them.
To commemorate the Day, Army honoured doctors and other health staff of Gool block of Ramban district, in recognition to their exemplary services or duties during COVID-19 Pandemic.
