REASI, July 3: Demanding reduction in rates of mining material, locals, led by Sarpanchs and leaders of various parties today staged a strong protest by blocking the main road in Arnas.
The protesting people raised slogans against District Mining Officer (DMO) and the administration. They blocked the main Arnas road and disrupted traffic resulting into long queues of vehicles on both ends of road.
The protesters were demanding reduction in rates of mining material like sand, Bajri etc. claiming that mining rates in Jammu are very low, they said that the rates in Arnas should be fixed accordingly. Free mining material should be given to BPL ration card holders and rate list should be displayed at mining sites, they added.
During the protest, Altaf Hussain, Sarpanch of Kainthi-B got fainted. He was taken to PHC Arnas for treatment.
Later on Naib Tehsildar reached the spot and pacified the protestors. On his assurance, the protestors suspended their protest for two days.
