Give reservation to Gujjars in Assembly: Hakla

Excelsior Correspondent
POONCH: July 4: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi the prominent Gujjar leader today said that despite being granted the Scheduled Tribe status by Union Government in the year 1991 under Ordinance No. 03 of 1991 under Article 342 of Constitution of India, the successive State Governments failed to provide reservation to the community in State Assembly and Parliament.
Terming it a big injustice with Gujjar and Bakarwals community, he wanted that same be done away with immediately.
He said the step of granting ST status was taken by the then Union Government to recognise the backwardness of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community in the erstwhile State of J&K.
Hakla said that all the efforts made by Government of India for the development and welfare of Gujjar Bakarwal Tribe of J&K, have been deliberately obstructed by the previous J&K Governments.
