JAMMU, June 23: To intensify their agitation against 19 hour power cut in Jagti camp, hundreds of camp inmates this evening took out a procession from Jagti to Nagrota and blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Nagrota for several hours.
The protestors including men, women and children raised slogans against the State Government and PDD authorities for long hour power cuts in the camp and warned to continue the agitation till the normal power supply is restored in camp. The protestors said that they will not budge an inch from their demand and continue the struggle to take it to its logical conclusion.
Accusing the Government of betraying the camp inmates the protestors said that while construction of Jagti camp it was promised that all facilities will be provided free of cost till the honorable and dignified return of the community to Valley but it is unfortunate that from the day first the migrants shifted to this camp the power supply was snapped for 18 hours during initial period which has now been increased by one hour more.
Terming it violation of human rights the protestors sought the intervention of rights activists towards their plight saying that after the failure of Government to provide security to community in Valley where from they were thrown out on the point of the gun Government was adding to their miseries.
They said Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh had himself announced to provide all facilities to the community while announcing the construction of over 4000 quarters for migrants in Jammu but it is not known why the PDD snapped the power supply to the camp. There seems to be a conspiracy on the part of some higher ups in the PDD who want to put the community in more trouble, they added.
