SUCHETGARH, July 7: DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony here today raised the issues of severe power shortage, inadequate water in the canal and depleting water table in the border belt of Suchetgarh.
Addressing a gathering here after launching bifurcation of power lines in seven villages of Suchetgarh, the DDC member said that hundreds of farmers in the border belt are feeling dejected during the Kharief season as the sowing of Basmati is affected due to scarcity of irrigation water not reaching the tail-end of the canal while the tube wells have become defunct due to power outage and lowering of ground water level.
He expressed resentment against the working of Executive Engineer of the Canal Irrigation due to which the adequate water has not reached the tail-end of the canal.
He said in this connection, the Chief Engineer called a meeting of both Executive Engineers of Division I and II and gave appropriate directions for resolving the issue at the earliest.
“Despite concerned Chief Engineer’s standing instructions the Executive Engineers of the Canal Irrigation are not paying any attention while releasing adequate supply of water in Division II,” he claimed adding that due to low water level in canal in Division II, the saplings of paddy are almost destroyed in the fields.
The DDC member said, already the de-silting work of canals has not been accomplished in proper manner.
Sarpanch Rajesh Khanna, Raghubir Choudhary, Bodh Raj Bodhu, Mohan Lal Sharma, Sukhdev Singh Manhas and Sarpanch Mohan Lal were also present on the occasion.
