In the meantime, the Health Department resumed routine surgeries in all COVID-19 hospitals on the directions of Additional Chief Secretary Health and Medical Education Department.
A spokesperson of the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir said they had dedicated many hospitals across the Kashmir division and routine surgeries had been stopped because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said the routine surgeries have already started in other hospitals. Dr Mushtaq today allowed non-Covid activities at JLNM Hospital Srinagar.
The Director had recently visited the JLNM hospital and advised the hospital administration and doctors of JLNM Hospital to start attending the non-COVID patients as they were suffering because the hospital was catering only to Covid patients since last year.
In this regard, the Surgical Department of JLNM started routine laparoscopic surgeries again and in this connection first, laparoscopic cholecystectomy was conducted today by Dr Akhter Ganai, senior Laparoscopic Surgeon and his team.
Similarly, DH Pulwama has also started routine surgeries after the second wave of Covid.
In this context, DH Pulwama conducted the routine list from Monday (5th July) and two cases were operated on by Consultant ENT, Dr Irfan Ul Shamas and anaesthetist Dr Deen Ahmed.
Pertinently, the Directorate has instructed all the hospitals across Kashmir to start the routine activities and instructed to keep separate Covid care facilities in all the institutions.
The Director also directed all the Chief Medical Officers to detach the staff deployed for Covid duties to their respective postings for the smooth functioning of the hospitals.
Meanwhile, The Union Territory of Ladakh has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to its entire eligible population, officials said today.
The administration has given the first jab of Covid vaccine to the beneficiaries and covered 100 per cent of healthcare workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (FLWs) and 45-plus years and 18-44 years age groups, an official spokesperson said.
This is probably the second UT to achieve this target after the Union Territory of Daman and Diu, which had already administered the first dose of Covid vaccine to its entire eligible population last week.
The Health and Medical Department of Ladakh is appealing to all its residents and non-residents, including government and private employees, workers above 18 years working in different sectors and labour contractors presently residing and working in Ladakh and are yet to receive the first dose, to contact their nearest vaccination centre, healthcare centre and healthcare workers to seek assistance in getting the Covid jab at the earliest.
Beneficiaries can call on the helpline numbers (Leh district: 01982-256462, Kargil district: 01985-232208) for any information and assistance.
