Birpur Industrial Estate faces worst ever power crisis

JAMMU, July 22: Birpur Industrial Estate has been facing worst ever power crisis despite the claims of the Government having provided dedicated feeders to the Industrial estates.
With the growing power curtailment during these hot and humid summer days and sudden shut downs, many units are facing losses worth crores. Though Birpur Industrial Association, Bari Brahmana raised this issue strongly before the concerned senior Power Development Department officials but no much improvement has been witnessed in the power supply position there. They have alleged acute power crisis in the area for the last several weeks.
While projecting the grave power crisis in Birpur Industrial Complex, the Association president, Deepak Dhawan said that frequent power interruptions besides low voltages, has caused massive loss to the industrialists. He said there will be about 7 to 8 plastic goods manufacturing units in the complex and when production is in progress and power supply suddenly breaks down, it damages the goods under production. This has been causing huge losses to the Industrialists. Some other units are also meeting the same fate. The PDD authorities will have to understand this fact, he added.
Dhawan further disclosed that there are about 85 Industrial units in Birpur complex and all the members of the Association being law abiding consumers, having 100% metered units in the Industrial complex, pay huge tariff every month to the PDD/JPDCL. The Department claimed to have installed dedicated power infrastructure/ Transformers for Birpur Industry, but unfortunately, the department has been providing power supply from the same dedicated station/ feeder to Seora and Kanal villages besides some other adjoining areas. With this, the deficiency of power supply is being faced by the Birpur Industry. The power load on the existing power infrastructure has increased and the PDD officials have started power curtailment in the Industry, putting industrialists to undue crisis.
He said although one transformer of 10 MVA was installed in Birpur Complex some time back for power supply to the Industrial units only, but the load of this dedicated transformer has been distributed to other surrounding areas, with the result the overloading now effecting the system and Industries in the complex. He said Association has been approaching frequently to the concerned officers for help and they are expressing helplessness because of system failures. Mere assurances are being given that something will be done shortly but nothing on the ground has happened seen so far, Dhawan added.
