One dies, 53 test +ve in Kashmir

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, July 23: One person died of COVID-19 and 53 tested positive in Kashmir while 33 new cases were reported in Jammu region and two in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Among 33 cases in Jammu region, 10 were registered in Reasi, eight Doda, four each in Jammu and Kishtwar, two each Udhampur and Ramban and one each in Poonch, Samba and Rajouri districts.
Kathua district didn’t report any fresh cases today.
However, 82 daily recoveries from Coronavirus were reported in the region today.
Jammu region now has 1,21,405 Corona cases. Of them, 564 are active positives while 1,18,703 have recovered from the virus and there have been 2138 casualties.
The Union Territory of Ladakh today reported two COVID positive cases, both in Kargil district.
Ladakh’s Corona count now stood at 20284 including 83 active positives, 19995 recoveries and 206 deaths—148 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, in view of the possible third wave of COVID, the district administration Srinagar today deputed Enforcement Squads accompanied by the Magistrates at different locations in the city to check on the people found violating the COVID-19 SOPs and not adhering to appropriate behaviour.
An official said that they have clear instructions from the DDMA Srinagar that the Covid-19 SOPs violations will not be tolerated in any case, and those found violating the COVID appropriate behaviour may have to face FIR under relevant laws.
Notably, earlier in the day, the DDMA Srinagar had also said that they are going to act tough on COVID protocol violators and those found not wearing masks in public places may have to face FIR.
He said that despite Enforcement Squads being established, it is impossible to chase down every individual and force them to wear the mask.
“Few people are habitual offenders, and they only wear masks when the Enforcement team instructs them to, as a result, in order to protect public health in general, we are taking stricter disciplinary action against those offenders,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar in a press briefing recently said that not wearing a mask despite going through first and second waves is suicidal.
In the meantime, Kashmir today reported 53 fresh cases of COVID-19 while one person succumbed to the viral infection.
Those who tested positive include 5 from Srinagar, 1 from Baramulla, 2 from Budgam, 13 from Pulwama, 1 from Kupwara, 3 from Ganderbal, 2 from Kulgam and 1 from Shopian.
As per officials figures, 71,094 positive cases including 832 deaths and 69,919 recoveries are from Srinagar, 23,518 including 282 deaths and 23,150 recoveries are from Baramulla, 22,830 including 22,554 recoveries and 205 deaths are from Budgam, 15,133 including 14,863 recoveries and 194 deaths are from Pulwama, 14,028 including 165 deaths and 13,810 recoveries are from Kupwara, 16,301 including 16,027 recoveries and 205 deaths are from Anantnag, 9,457 cases including 9,294 and 100 deaths are from Bandipora, 9,840 including 9,702 recoveries and 78 deaths are from Ganderbal, 11,219 including 11,087 recoveries and 117 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,578 including 5,511 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 198,998 including 195,917 recoveries and 2,236 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,409 including 845 from Kashmir division.
With 166 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 314,620 which is 98.20 percent of the total cases.
