JAMMU, July 26: Former Minister and Ex MLA of Jammu East Constituency, Yogesh Sawhney said that the poor drainage system and dilapidated lanes have been making human lives miserable in the old Jammu City.
It was stated by him while interacting with locals during the Congress meeting which was held at Ward-15, here. He alleged that in most parts of the area roadside drains and water channels are open, often overflowing and causes an inconvenience and unhygienic situation to residents.
Speaking on occasion, Sawhney said that old Jammu City is in totally worse shape due to lack of maintenance and development works. “The situation is so bad that residents, shopkeepers and local businesses have taken it upon themselves to fix the lanes and drainage in their neighbourhood by spending thousands on repair work out of their own pockets,” he said.
He further said that no steps have been taken so far by either any concerned Councillors or by any other Authorities in the matter, resulting of it, the residents are being forced to live in unhygienic conditions.
The former Minister further questioned the Mayor about his negligible approach towards old Jammu City. He alleged that most of the development works could not be completed due to a lack of funds and lack of coordination between various departments. Concerned officials and elected Councillors have also stayed away from taking stock of the myriad of problems troubling people here which exposed the tall claims of Modi Government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Sawhney appealed the Authorities concerned to take up the matter to restore the former glory of the Old Jammu City and to provide people with a high-quality life.
Corporator Ritu Choudhary said that severe water clogging has caused inconvenience to people in many areas of Jammu city and the Authority concerned seems unbothered about it.
The meeting was organised by Raj Kumar Sodhi, Ward president wherein senior Congress leaders including Suresh Dogra, Ritu Choudhary, Dr Ramakanth Khajuria, Chander Shekhar Sharma, Atul Sharma, Gurmeet Singh, Ram Magotra and many other participated.
