Employees’ unions condemn lathi-charge on ReT teachers

JAMMU, June 28: Various employees’ unions and associations of Jammu region have condemned the police lathi-charge on the peacefully protesting ReT teachers in Srinagar today.
All Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh Tachers’ Federation in a meeting held under the leadership of Balwan Singh Jamwal here today, strongly condemned the police lathi-charge and alleged that Government was trying to gag the voice of the employees who were projecting their long pending demands in democratic manner. They said the ReT teachers are unpaid for several months and many of them who have rendered more than five years service are not being regularized as per norms.
With such genuine and justified demands, the ReT teachers were way laid by cops and beaten up mercilessly. It is shame on the part of Government that instead of paying teachers’ pending arrears/ wages, the Government was showering water cannons and using force on them. Jammu Kashmir Teachers Federation also condemned the lathi-charge.
Meanwhile, J&K Govt Employees & Workers’ United Front in an emergency meeting held under the leadership of Ram Kumar Sharma in Jammu and Aijaz Khan in Srinagar, comprising of EJAC-R and EJAC Kashmir and other major unions/ Federations of Kashmir strongly condemned the police action on the peacefully demonstrating ReT teachers in Srinagar today. Leaders of the United Front including Shakeel Ahmed Kuchay, Rafiq Ahmed Khanyari, Babu Hussain Malik, Joginder Singh, Maqbool Ahmed, Aijaz Ahmed Khan Parshotam Sharma, Bashir Ahmed Mir, Javed Ahmed Akhoon, Madan Sangral, K A Dewani and others warned the State Government to shun the path of confrontation and resolve the genuine demands of the ReT teachers at an earliest. They accorded full support to the cause of ReT teachers and assured to join them in their struggle in near future.
