KARGIL, Aug 3: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan called on the Lieutenant Governor Ladakh R K Mathur at the Raj Bhawan at Leh today.
During the meeting, the CEC took up various issues with the LG in the aftermath of the recent flashfloods at various locations in Kargil District.
CEC Khan thanked the LG for immediate release of Rs 1.5 crores to each of the districts to handle the post flood situation. He said that the funds need to be enhanced given the severity of the damages and further informed the LG about the magnitude of the damages to residential houses, livestock, trees, standing crops etc.
The CEC said that around 10 houses including 7 houses in Khawos village have been completely damaged while many more have suffered severe damages. He said that around 100 people have been housed on temporary basis at a Government facility at Taisuru.
CEC Feroz Khan urged the LG Ladakh to release a special relief package to help the affected people restart their lives. He further requested the LG to ensure strengthening up of the UTDRF with sufficient manpower so that the administration is better prepared in times of calamity.
The CEC also brought to the notice of the LG the need for long term planning to deal with such situations in the upcoming times. He said that training of flood prone nallahs is of utmost importance to keep the pathway of flood water away from human settlements and agricultural fields.
The LG patiently listened to the points raised by the CEC and assured all possible help at the earliest.
The LG further said that keeping in view the need for urgent rehabilitation of the affected people, the UT Administration has released Rs 1.5 crores instantly. He said that the UT Administration stands firmly with the LAHDCs to help the affected people restart their lives.
