DDC Chairman meets Comm Secy GAD, submits memo

KATHUA, Aug 8: District Development Council (DDC) Kathua Chairman, Col Mahan Singh today met Manoj Dwivedi, Commissioner Secretary, General Administr-ation Department and Secretary In-charge, District Kathua, and discussed various issues related to people of Kathua District. Various significant issues came up for deliberation during the meeting especially those pertaining to basic amenities.
The DDC Chairman later submitted a memorandum to the Principal Secretary, General Administration Department containing a detailed list of problems and issues faced by the people across the district.
The issues and demands highlighted in the memorandum include release of outstanding payment of bunkers constructed in border areas Hiranagar and Marheen, compensation relief for farmers affected due to recent flash floods, issues of road connectivity, development of tourism in District Kathua, shortage of drinking water and power, Public Distribution System and healthcare issues, construction of bridges and empowerment of District Development Council.
Col Mahan Singh conveyed to Manoj Dwivedi that road connectivity is quite poor in Kathua District and hence there is immediate need to focus on Hatli-Manu, DyalaChak- Shallan; Lakhanpur-Mahanpur-Basohli, Tunnel road through Balasundri hills interlinking Billawar and Kathua, Daggar – Katli road connecting Bani and Billawar besides Sukaral -Macheddi roads.
Col. Mahan also sought development of tourism in the region asserting that there is tremendous potential of Tourism especially in Basohli-Bani-Billawar region. The memorandum also seeks immediate release funds for completion of construction of new hospital at Billawar which is currently under construction besides pacing up the work on various ongoing projects.
The Principal Secretary GAD gave a patient hearing to the DDC Chairman and assured him of early redressal of the aforesaid issues.
