Srinagar, Aug 8: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said that there will be no mercy for the militants and their supporters in Kashmir as the Government is committed to ensure peace and development in Kashmir.
“In a place like Kashmir, where there are Sufi saints everywhere, there is no place for violence and militancy,” the LG said while addressing a function at Kund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. He added that there will be no mercy for militants and their supporters.
“In the land of Sufi saints like Syed Simnani (RA), who have spilled the blood and sweat to promote peace and defeat violence, there is no place for any sort of violence. Administration is committed to promote the vision of Sufi saints like Syed Simnani (RA) and promote the culture of peace and progress in the region,” the LG said.
He highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir is the land of sages, saints and Sufi mystics and the fragrance of their words, ideals and teaching is in its every corner. Whether it is Nund Rishi, Simnani Sahib, all had spread the fragrance of peace and equality of all religions.
“All religions, whether Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, Christianity have flourished here and all have said one thing that progress is possible only through peace and love. If some people are being misled from the path of peace, then it becomes the responsibility of the elders to bring them back onto the right path”, he added.

He said those joining the path of violence will be dealt with strictly. “I urge the Imams and Khateebs to play their role and keep a watch on children so that they don’t tread a wrong path,” he said, adding that unfortunately, some elements and the neighbouring country doesn’t want peace to be promoted in Kashmir, but “we are committed to defeat violence.”
“Youth who have chosen wrong path must shun violence and join the massive transformation. Those trying to mislead youth by pushing them towards violence are playing with the sentiments of hundreds of people of Kashmir,” he said.
He appealed to local militants to shun the path of violence and promised to help them with jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities. He strongly condemned the attack on the security force in Kulgam. “Terrorists will never succeed in their nefarious designs, those responsible for such heinous acts shall be brought to justice”, he said.
Sinha said people of J&K, especially the youth, want to tread the path of progress and development and appealed to the misguided youths to shun violence and return to the mainstream.
“The Government is ready to help with jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities,” he added. The L-G said the administration would work hard to make J&K one of the most developed Union Territories in the country.
The administration is committed to making the UT a role model of development and prosperity, he said, adding that it would empower youths and strengthen the Panchayati Raj institutions..
Commencing of the third phase of the “Back to Village” programme across the UT, he said it  is a perfect way to honour Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
“Everyone must follow the path of non-violence, social justice, equality, upliftment of the underprivileged sections of society, secular traditions and brotherhood”, he said.
The LG said that it was found that a total of 663 school buildings in Kashmir division and 630 in the Jammu division were lying vacant. They are now being given to other departments for proper use.
“This is just a small example of how money sent by the Centre for the welfare of people of J&K was siphoned off. We have made the governance transparent and each work is taken up only after due diligence. We are preparing our youth for Industry 4.0. We have set up two Modern Invention, Innovation and Incubation Centers at Baramulla and Jammu and 12 more such centers will be set up”, he said at the public rally.
Noting that 14% of the population of Kund belongs to the Scheduled Tribes category, the Lt Governor said that instructions have been passed to provide the best education to the children.  Rs 30 crore has been disbursed as scholarships to the children from the Tribal community and this year 42,000 more students will be given scholarships than the last year.
“Overall scholarships have been given to more than 8 lakh children. In the last one year, 50 such new colleges have been set up, which will provide vocational and professional education with modern infrastructure to prepare the youth for employment. Mission Youth has been created and many programs started to empower boys and girls and provide them an opportunity to become entrepreneurs,” he added.
The Lt Governor said that the aim of the administration is to reach the doorsteps of people of J&K with good governance. The district capex budget of Kulgam this year is Rs 537 crore, which is three times more than last year. The infrastructure here, whether it is roads, electricity, or water, will witness change within a year, he said.
On the occasion, the LG also met the Indian Economic Service (IES) topper from J&K, Tanveer Ahmad Khan and lauded him for his momentous achievement. He also felicitated professional cricketer, Arshid Magrey and termed them as inspiration for the youth of UT.
“A few days ago, Tanveer Ahmed Khan of Niginpora Kund village in Kulgam brought glory to the entire Jammu & Kashmir by securing AIR-2 in the IES exam. I have always believed that our youths are inherently capable and full of potential. I am sure his success will inspire the entire young generation to build a better future”,  he said.
