LEH, Aug 9: Following intervention of Lt Governor Ladakh, R K Mathur, re-affiliation of pre-university courses of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) Choglamsar, Leh, with Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi with effect from 2016, has been approved.
The development has salvaged career of hundreds of CIBS students as the institution was not competent to conduct academic courses for 1st to 12th classes and to issue certificates after its disaffiliation from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in 2016.
“Happy to learn that re-affiliation of pre-university courses of CIBS, Leh with Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi with effect from 2016 has been approved,” tweeted Lt Governor R K Mathur, this evening.
In another tweet, the LG has expressed his deep gratitude to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandi Ben Patel, who is also Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, for very prompt consideration of his request in this regard.
“This would immensely benefit hundreds of students and secure their future,” tweets R K Mathur.
The CIBS, funded by Ministry of Culture GoI, was affiliated with Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in Varanasi which used to provide degrees to CIBS students of Shastri (Graduation) and Acharya equivalent to Post Graduate till 2016 and Director of the CIBS could issue certificates upto class 12th.
However, CIBS had to disaffiliate from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in 2016 after getting Deemed to be University status and without knowing the consequences, CIBS disaffiliated itself from recognized Board also. In absence of having any affiliation with any recognized Board, the students of CIBS upto class 12th failed to get recognized certificates since 2016 besides number of primary school branches run by the Institute through different monasteries of Ladakh are also without any recognition. Thus thousands of students’ fate was hanging in air with lots of technical issues to get recognition.
