JAMMU, Aug 10: Not the Deputy Commissioners but the Chairpersons of District Development Council (DDC) shall preside over the Independence Day function and take salute at the concerned district headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir.
An instruction in this regard was issued today by the Government to both the Divisional Commissioners (Kashmir/Jammu).
Through this instruction, the Government has sought to signal authority of the elected Panchayat representatives over the bureaucracy.
As per the official communiqué, DDC Chairpersons shall preside over the Independence Day function at concerned District Headquarters while BDC Chairpersons/ President Municipal bodies shall preside over the function at respective Block Headquarters and Municipal Headquarters.
In case, Block Headquarters and Municipal Headquarters are the same, two separate functions shall be organized.
In case BDC Chairperson/President Municipal body is not available, SDM/Tehsildar/Senior most Civil officer shall take salute at respective Sub-Division/Tehsil headquarters. .
Mayors of both the Capital cities and DDC Chairpersons of Jammu and Srinagar shall attend the main function in their respective cities where Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Advisor Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar shall take the salute.
