JAMMU, Aug 12: Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta in presence of Kuldeep Singh Chib, Chairman Social Justice Committee JMC and JMC Commissioner, Avny Lavasa formally inaugurated/ commissioned the upgraded traditional water body (pond) popularly known as `Bharwali Chappri’ at Lower Thathar in Ward No. 63.
Ashwani Kumar Gupta, Executive Engineer, Deep Kumar Assistant Executive Engineer, Rakesh Kumar Junior Engineer & other supervisory staff of Division-III as well as Kamal Sharma, Suresh Kumar, Raj Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Chain Singh and other prominent inhabitants of the ward were also present during the inauguration function.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor told that JMC with the active support of all the Councillors by allotting equivalent funds have already taken up the job for restoration/rejuvenation of the traditional water bodies/ponds situated at various locations which is the need of the hour as these water bodies are the major source of water in earlier as well as in present days and helps a lot to maintain/ increase the already decreasing water level especially in urban areas.
Mayor was apprised by the Engineering section that this particular water body has been upgraded with an allotted amount of Rs 24 lakhs only by way of proper fencing all around the pond, installation of benches for sitting purposes, construction of pathway for walking of general public.
Besides this, number of saplings have also been planted all around the surrounding area for providing eco-friendly atmosphere. Mayor further told that on the demands of locals required number of LED/ Solar lights will also be installed at an earliest at suitable sites for proper illumination of the area. He also requested to the locals to frame a welfare committee of the prominent residents of the locality who will monitor the better functioning and its further development of this prestigious water body and appealed to the general public to come forward and cooperate with JMC & other allied departments in all the development activities and restoration of other water bodies in their respective localities so that Jammu can be made neat, clean and green city.
