JAMMU, Aug 13: Alleging a lot of misinformation and lack of clarity on alienation of land under New Land Laws in Jammu and Kashmir, Romesh Chander Gupta, President of the Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha has reiterated that Section H-133 of this Act should be nullified.
He claimed that the Prime Minister Office (PMO) has also taken cognizance of the matter and asked the Chief Secretary J&K to take necessary action in this regard.
“While Section H-133 of the Act says that only an agriculturist from J&K can buy agricultural land , at the same time it empowers the Government or an officer authorised by it to grant permission to a non-agriculturist to alienate the land to a non-agriculturist by way of sale, gift -exchange or mortgage,’ he said.
Lamenting that there was a lot of misinformation and lack of clarity on this issue, Mr Gupta termed the Government’s stands on the Land Laws as “a bundle of lies aimed to hoodwink people”.
Mr Gupta drew the attention towards the discrimination with the two particular communities, Mahajan and Khatris, who have been denied the right of sale and purchase of Agriculture land and said that it was clear-cut discrimination.
Informing that a letter in this regard was written by him to Prime Minister of India, Mr Gupta said that the PMO, in response to the letter, has asked the Chief Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir for the necessary action and also directed for sending a reply to the petitioner (President of Central Mahajan Sabha) besides uploading a copy of the same on the portal.
On behalf of the Sabha, Romesh Chander Gupta expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for taking cognizance of the grievance and requested the concerned authorities of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to take up appropriate necessary action at the earliest so as to mitigate the long pending demand.
