42 cases of illicit liquor recovered

RAMBAN, Aug 14: Batote police recovered 42 cases of illicit liquor from a make shift shop (khokha) at Thopal.
“During patrolling duty along with other officials, SHO Batote Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, received information through reliable sources that one person namely Khurshid Ahmad son of Hassan Din, resident of Thopal (Batote) has kept a huge quantity of illicit liquor in his ‘khokha’ at Thopal,” a police spokesperson said.
He said acting swiftly on the receipt of the information, SHO police station along with other officials reached on the spot but by then the shopkeeper had fled away from the spot. “The SHO along with some prominent citizens of the local area searched the ‘khokha’ and recovered 42 cases (containing 504 bottles) of illicit English liquor made in Punjab and Haryana (which was meant for sale in Haryana only),” he said, adding, the liquor had been transported illegally from Haryana to Jammu without the payment of prescribed duty.
The spokesperson said among the seized liquor, 8 cases (96 bottles) were of Royal Challenge, 22 cases (264 bottles) were of Imperial Blue, 8 cases (96 bottles) were of Royal Stag and 4 cases (48 bottles) were of Blenders Pride. He said the liquor was kept illegally for the purpose of sale at exorbitant rates among the general public.
“In this connection, a case FIR Number 86/2021 under Section 48 (a) (f)/50 (1) Excise Act has been registered at police station Batote,” the spokesperson added.
