4 students killed, 5 hurt in Leh

JAMMU, July 2: In a tragic accident, four students were killed and five others including a driver sustained severe injuries when a vehicle, they were travelling in, plunged into deep gorge near Lamauru area of the Leh district tonight.
The ill-fated Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK10-3409 was on its way from Jammu to Leh when it met with accident reportedly due to the negligence of the driver near Lamauru under the jurisdiction of Khaltsi Police Station at around 8 pm.
On getting information about the tragic accident, a police party from Khaltsi Police Station swung into action and started rescue operation. After hectic efforts, police team brought all the occupants of the vehicle out of the gorge and shifted them to Sub-District Hospital where doctors declared three of them as brought dead.
Later, six injured persons including driver of the ill-fated vehicle were rushed to District Hospital Leh where one of them succumbed to injuries raising the toll in the accident to four. The condition of five injured was stated to be critical when reports last came in.
All the eight students travelling in the ill-fated vehicle were returning to their native places in the Leh district after participating in the NET examination held at Jammu yesterday.
Soon after getting information about the accident, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Simrandeep Singh rushed to District Hospital Leh and personally supervised the treatment to the injured persons. He directed the hospital administration to provide best possible treatment to the injured free of cost.
Among the four deceased, two have been identified as Jigmet, son of Sonam Dorjey of Hemis-Shukpachan and Rigzin Angmo, daughter of Tsewang Rinchen of Skurbuchan.
The injured have been identified as Chorol, daughter of Odzer of Housing Colony, Leh, Dorjay Angchuk, son of Tsering Dorjay of Nobra, Jigmet Dolma of Domkhar, Tashi Dolkar of Skurbuchan and Lamo Nimotpa of Anchinathang.
