Committee of Indigenous Dialects makes several recommendations

DODA, Aug 19: Committee of Indigenous Dialects of Chenab Valley, which met here yesterday under the chairmanship of Addl Deputy Commissioner Doda, R K Bharti, made several recommendations for promotion, development and enrichment of Western Himalyan Pahari dialects, which are mainly spoken in the erstwhile Doda district.
These languages include Bhaderwahi, Bhalessesi, Deswali, Sarazi, Pogli and Padri. The meeting was attended by Prahlad Bhagat, Chief Education Officer Doda; Zubair Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer, Doda; Slah-ud-Din, Cultural Officer, Doda; Abdul Majeed Bichoo, Chairman SCOPE and Sadakat Ali Malik, Secretary.
The committee members suggested that at first instance, these languages and their indigenous dialects, including Kishtwari, must be included in Pahari Language and hence recommended the matter to be submitted to Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Administrative Secretary, Department of Cultural J&K for further appropriate action.
On the suggestion of Chairman SCOPE that there should be a regional cultural office in Chenab Valley at Doda Sub-offices at District Headquarters Kishtwar and Ramban besides creation of separate editorial section for promotion and reservation of the local dialects, the committee decided to submit the matter to Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Cultural and Languages for appropriate necessary action.
