JAMMU, Aug 19: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said today that Jammu and Kashmir is becoming synonymous with peace and prosperity under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and charged previous rulers of erstwhile State of depriving the people of development for decades and caring for their own families.
Shah gave all credit to the Prime Minister for initiating era of development and bringing poor citizens of Jammu and Kashmir into the mainstream.
The Home Minister took to twitter to highlight return of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir which was converted into a Union Territory after abrogation of special status of the erstwhile State on August 5, 2019. Only a fortnight ago, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh had completed two years of becoming Union Territories.
“Jammu and Kashmir is becoming synonymous with peace and prosperity under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
Without naming anyone, Shah charged previous Governments with depriving citizens of Jammu and Kashmir of development for decades and only caring for their own families.
His targets were obviously Abdullahs and Muftis, who ruled Jammu and Kashmir for long time. Earlier also, top BJP leadership has been openly targeting Abdullahs and Muftis for lack of development during their tenures. However, in his today’s tweets, Shah refrained from naming the two families.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a new era of development which connects poor citizens to the mainstream. As a result, Jammu and Kashmir is marching ahead in all fields,” the Union Home Minister said.
He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for ensuring supply of pure drinking water in all schools and Anganwadi Centres of Jammu and Kashmir before time.
A picture tagged with by the Union Home Minister with his tweets said all 22,422 schools and 23,926 Anganwadi Centers in Jammu and Kashmir now have clean tap water supply which will be used for drinking, cooking, hand washing and use in toilets.
It carried photograph of the Prime Minister with slogan ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’.
The Union Home Minister’s tweets came just four days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech stated that preparations are on for holding Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in near future and that the Delimitation Commission has been doing its job.
There were reports that the Delimitation Commission could soon call second meeting with Associate Members to discuss with them the draft prepared by the Panel after four days visit to Jammu and Kashmir in the month of June.
The Commission held first meeting with the Associate Members in February this year but it was attended only by the two BJP Lok Sabha members including Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma but was boycotted by the National Conference MPs including Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mohammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi.
However, the National Conference delegations had met the Delimitation Commission at both Jammu and Srinagar during their visit to the Union Territory dropping enough indications that the party’s Associate Members might attend next meeting to be called by the Commission.
“The meeting can be called in the next few days,” sources said.
Term of the Delimitation Commission expires in March 2022. It was set up in March 2020 with one-year term. In March 2021, term of the Commission was extended by another year.
