Woman, son murdered; accused Head Constable arrested

JAMMU, Aug 20: A woman and her son were murdered by latter’s father-in-law in Sanjay Nagar Extension area here.
However, acting swiftly, a joint team from Police Station Gandhi Nagar and Police Post Digiana arrested the accused, who is Head Constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police.
As per police sources, Head Constable Popinder Singh, son of Tirth Singh of Akali Kour Singh Nagar District Jammu attacked his son-in-law and his parents with sharp edged weapons in Sanjay Nagar Extension area late last night.
“For the past sometime, daughter of accused was having estranged relations with her husband, which led to the dispute”, police sources said.
They said that the accused, brutally attacked his son-in-law Amandeep Singh, son of Rajinder Singh, a resident of Sanjay Nagar Extension district Jammu, his parents Rajinder Singh, son of Gurcharan Singh and Shakuntla Kaur, wife of Rajinder Singh.
The woman died on the spot, sources said, adding that injured persons were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where Amandeep Singh also succumbed to his injuries today evening. Rajinder Singh was undergoing treatment when last reports came in.
Meanwhile, acting swiftly over the information regarding the incident, a joint team from Police Station Gandhi Nagar led by SHO Inspector Bharat Sharma and Police Post Digiana SI Tarsem Raj immediately swung into action and arrested the accused. Wife of accused and his three daughters were also stand detained.
After conducting post-mortem of the woman, the body of the deceased was handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
A case under FIR Number 235/2021 under Sections 302, 307 and 34 IPC and 4/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and further investigation is going on to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the incident.
