SRINAGAR, Aug 20: Senior vice president of Peoples Conference (PC) and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today expressed his grave concern over neglect of fruit and tourism industry in Kashmir valley and demanded the Government to announce a comprehensive package for revival of the same.
Vakil said lakhs of people are solely dependent on these two major industries for their livelihood but uncared attitude of Government has left many people high and dry. Vakil urged the Union Government to come up with a comprehensive package policy for the revival of these two vital industries of the UT as it has been assured many times by the Government.
“It becomes an obligation for the Government to come to the support and succor of the fruit and tourism industry as they form the backbone of our economy and have always been suffering on account of lockdowns, strikes, weather vagaries and fluid political situation in the Valley,” Vakil said and reiterated his demand of waiving of KCC loans of fruit growers.
The former Minister was addressing workers’ convention in Chatloora Rafiabad. He said it is surprising and unfortunate that the Government is not releasing wages to the daily wagers working in different departments, especially PDD, PHE, PWD, Agriculture Forest and Fisheries.
He said the Government is acting as a mute spectator to the sufferings of these people and their families. “It is the responsibility of the administration to help these poor people to restore their life and livelihood especially those who make their both ends meet on daily earnings,” Vakil added.
Others who addressed the convention include Tariq Ahmad Mir (Block president), Sheikh Ghulam Nabi (Block president Youth, PC Rafiabad) and general secretary Abdul Salaam Naikoo.
