Absconding notorious drug peddler nabbed

JAMMU, Aug 21: Bahu Fort Police nabbed absconding notorious drug peddler.
As per police sources, on October 13, 2010, two persons identified as Nirmal Singh, son of Mohan Singh, a resident of Nambal Mattan District Anantnag and Virinder Gupta, son of Sai Dass Gupta of Muthi District Jammu were arrested with 4.500 kilograms of cannabis and a case under FIR Number 240/2010 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Trikuta Nagar.
After completion of investigation, the challan of the case was produced before the court of law on December 17, 2010.
After completion of trial, Virinder Gupta was acquitted by the 1st Additional Session Judge Jammu whereas Nirmal Singh was convicted.
On May 31, 2017, the judgement was pronounced in his absence (Nirmal Singh) as his exemption application was moved by his Counsel. Moreover, court gave directions to Counsel of accused, for production of accused Nirmal Singh on next day date but the accused was not produced thereafter.
Subsequently, several non bailable warrants were issued by court time and again for the production of accused before the Court but warrants could not be executed till July 2021.
On 26th of July 2021, 1st Additional Session Judge Jammu passed directions to ADGP Jammu for production of accused on next date i.e. August 23, 2021. In compliance to Court directions, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli constituted a special team from Police Station Bahu Fort for apprehending the accused from South Kashmir.
A team from Police Station Bahu Fort led by PSI Adarsh Thakur under the supervision of SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Deepak Pathania, SDPO East Bikram Kumar and SP South Deepak Digra with the active support of Anantnag Police, raided at several locations at Srigufwara, Bijbehara, Sallar in District Anantnag and finally succeeded in apprehending accused (Nirmal Singh ) from village Nambal, Mattan District Anantnag.
After completing legal formalities, the accused has been brought to Jammu who will be produced before the court on August 23, 2021.
