Culture Academy to organize first ever nomadic festival

LEH, Aug 22: Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages Leh, the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh will organize first ever nomadic festival to showcase complete nomadic life and its culture in its pristine form.
The event is supported by All Ladakh Tour Operators Association Leh and Department of Tourism. Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh R K Mathur will inaugurate the two-day festival.
The festival will showcase the complete story of nomads living in isolation and moving from place to place in search of pasture for the livestock. The main objective of this mega event festival is to celebrate the challenging nomadic life well within their own territory, letting their younger educated nomadic youth realize the beauty and uniqueness of nomadic culture they are living in.
Ladakh Nomadic festival also aims to celebrate life and glory of Changpa (Nomads) Heroes like Ra-zhees (shepherd), Yak-zhees (Yak Herders), Bar-zhees and Ita-zhees always happily accepting challenges in their way and dedicating their life for the survival of others in a way.
Traditional marriage ceremony of nomads, exhibition, spinning of wool, weaving, playing Dice & Pak, Yak Dance, culture programme, archery competition, Chibs-rgygs (Horse Race) and many more exciting events will be part of the festival. There will be seminars among different nomads to discuss about increasing migration trend which is concern on part of security of border areas. Nomads from Phobrang, Rele-Iting, Satto-Kargyam, Tsaga, Anle, Koyul, Chumur, Sumdho and Kharnak will participate in the festival.
Culture Academy Leh Deputy Secretary Tsewang Paljor said that the festival aims to highlight the heroic activities of Shepard who are the backbones of nomads for their survival. This festival aims to make the nomads realize the importance of their lifestyle having great contribution in the Ladakhi society.
