One dies, 93 new cases in J&K

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Aug 23: A woman died and 43 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the Jammu region while 50 fresh cases were reported from Kashmir today. The UT of Ladakh didn’t report any new cases.
Doda district in the Jammu region today reported fresh spike with 28 new COVID positive cases including 16 MBBS students of Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, a former Deputy Commissioner and one serving JKAS officer.
Officials told the Excelsior that 16 MBBS students of GMC Doda, six of them females, have tested positive for COVID-19.
Twelve members of three-four families, all relatives, also tested positive for the virus in Doda.
They include Ghulam Nabi Balwan, former Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Kishtwar Akhter Qazi, a JKAS officer.
The officials said one of the family members had recently returned from UK and was tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman hailing from Koteranka Kandi in Rajouri district, who was co-morbid and positive for the virus, died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri today taking Corona toll in Jammu region to 2163 and Rajouri to 233.
Among 43 new COVID positive cases reported in the Jammu region, five were registered in Rajouri, three Kishtwar, two each in Jammu, Poonch and Reasi and one in Samba district. Ramban and Udhampur districts didn’t report any cases today.
However, as against 43 new cases, 114 persons recovered from the virus leaving behind only 372 active cases in Jammu region.
The UT of Ladakh today didn’t report any fresh cases. There are 61 active positive cases in Ladakh including 55 in Leh and six in Kargil district.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today recorded 50 fresh COVID-19 cases.
Those who tested positive include 12 from Srinagar, 7 from Baramulla, 3 from Budgam, 4 from Pulwama, 8 from Kupwara, 5 from Anantnag, 4 from Bandipora, 3 from Ganderbal and 4 from Kulgam.
As per officials figures, 71,992 cases including 834 deaths and 70,913 recoveries are from Srinagar, 23,816 including 282 deaths and 23,461 recoveries are from Baramulla, 23,067 including 22,805 recoveries and 206 deaths are from Budgam, 15,285 including 15,065 recoveries and 194 deaths are from Pulwama, 14,210 including 166 deaths and 13,997 recoveries are from Kupwara, 16,439 including 16,176 recoveries and 205 deaths are from Anantnag, 9,604 cases including 9,451 and 100 deaths are from Bandipora, 10,073 including 9,940 recoveries and 78 deaths are from Ganderbal, 11,402 including 11,220 recoveries and 117 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,593 including 5,531 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 201,481 including 198,559 recoveries and 2,240 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,054 including 682 from Kashmir division.
With 203 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 318,838, which is 98.32 percent of the total cases.
