JAMMU, Aug 25: Government College of Education, Jammu has been conferred with “One District One Green Champion Award” by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, for its contribution to Swachhta Education and Practice.
The award, given to only one institution per district, was announced recently. Several higher educational institutions participated in the ‘One District One Green Champion’ Award announced by MGNCRE and Government College of Education Jammu has carved out a niche as the “Green Champion of Jammu district”.
Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, Anshul Garg presented the award to the Principal of the College, Dr Kulvinder Kour at an online ceremony held on Thursday evening during a district-level cluster workshop on Swachata Action Plan through Google Meet where Dr Pallavi Kaul of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, was the Resource Person.
The Deputy Commissioner Jammu Anshul Garg felicitated the Principal of Government College of Education Jammu Dr Kulvinder Kour and expressed happiness over the hard work of the college which led to its bagging the award. He hoped that all the higher education institutions will work towards achieving the goals of Swachhta Programme.
Congratulating the students and the staff particularly the NSS volunteers led by Programme Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal, Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour said that the award acknowledges and promotes successful endeavours and initiatives of the college focused on sustainable development of the nation. She added that the college has always mobilized resources for various pro-environment programmes such as cleanliness and plantation campaigns in and around the campus and the students are always motivated to exuberantly participate in these programmes.
Dr Pallavi Kaul, Resource Person, spoke on the necessity to implement Swachhta Action Plan and how higher education institutions can play lead role in this regard. She also highlighted benefits for the higher education institutions under Swachhta Action Plan.

The event witnessed participation of college staff, students and NSS volunteers.
