PORT LOUIS (Mauritius), Sept 1: In an international poetic symposia organized by Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture-Mauritius, Balwant Thakur, currently Director of world’s biggest cultural centre of India abroad based in Port Louis, Mauritius today introduced Dogri language to global audience.
Majority audience included French, Creole, English, Hindi, Chinese and Arabic who had the flavor of Dogri language for the first time.
In this important event, Thakur before reciting a Dogri poem, presented a bird eye view of Dogri language and culture. He informed that the sweet language Dogri is spoken in J&K in addition to Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and some parts of Pakistan.
Later, while paying rich tributes to one of the most celebrated Dogri poetess, Padma Sachdev, he recited her famous poem ‘Raje Diyan Mandiyan’.
After this he presented the translation of the same done by Mrinal Pande and Arlene Zide. This Dogri rendering of the poem received huge appreciation.
Dogri also received the appreciation of the presidium and repeated mentions for the powerful protest and revolutionary vision of the poetry.
Few went beyond and said that such meaningful writings will inspire many young poets in Mauritius to include subjects of human consciousness and values.
Balwant Thakur is credited for taking Dogri language and culture to England, Russia, Germany, South Africa, UAE, Thailand, Italy, China, Bangladesh, Singapore, Spain, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Bhutan and Mauritius.
During the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in Mauritius, he has huge plans to showcase the best of India there and J&K artists may also get to show their talent internationally.
