Police produces challan, confirms rape by fake faith-healer

Excelsior Correspondent Budgam, July 6: Police today produced challan against fake faith healer and sexual exploiter of girls, Gulzar Bhat, before a Judicial Magistrate, confirming that medical examination and statements of rape victims proved that he had sexually exploited the girls. A Police statement said the challan has been presented after the completion of investigations in the case. “The investigations were carried out by a team of officers headed by ASP Budgam. During the course of investigations, the statements of the victims were recorded before the Judicial Magistrate and the medical examinations of the victims corroborated the commission of offence,” the statement said. Besides statements of the victims and medical examination, the investigating team also collected other corroborating evidences which clearly established the commission of offence punishable under Section 376, 109/RPC by the accused Gulzar Bhat and his disciples, the statement added. “Gulzar Bhat utilized services of his close women disciples to obtain consent of the innocent young girls by deceitful means. These women disciples would explain the spiritual benefits of having relation with Gulzar Bhat, who according to them has attained the status of spiritual “Rehbar” (spiritual guide),” it said. On May 19 this year, some girls who were undergoing special course in the so-called madrasaa Noor-ul-Ain Fatima-tuz-Zehra at Shamasabad, Budgam, had lodged a written complaint with police regarding sexual exploitation during their studies in the institute by its head Gulzar Bhat and accordingly a case FIR No. 40/13 under Section 376/RPC was registered in Police Station Khan Sahib.
