SRINAGAR, Sept 5: The restrictions in Kashmir after the death of veteran separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani were lifted this evening after four days.
The restrictions continued for the fourth consecutive day today mostly in sensitive area of Kashmir while they were gradually eased out. The restrictions were strictly in place in Hyderpora area of Srinagar in the area where Geelani lived and where he was buried.
Shops, business establishments were mostly closed and there was minimal traffic on the roads.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar today said that “further relaxations in movement and business activities will be provided in whole Kashmir today 5 pm onwards.”
“We thank people for cooperation extended over last four days,” he said.
“Keeping in mind the cooperation extended by people in maintenance of peace in whole Kashmir, it has been decided that further relaxations in movement and business activities will be provided in whole Kashmir today 5 pm onwards,” he said.
The IGP also said that mobile internet services shall be restored tomorrow.
The authorities had snapped telephony and internet except lesser-used BSNL services following the demise of Geelani on the evening of September 1.
