SRINAGAR, July 7: To promote Kashmir’s dying Papier Mache art, the University of Kashmir today roped- in artisans, experts, scholars and academia during a two-day national workshop to have a final look on the syllabus and course content to formally launch six-months certificate course on the art.
The two -day national workshop was organised by the Directorate of Life Long Leaning of University of Kashmir in collaboration with the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL)
Speaking at the occasion, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. AM Shah urged the university authorities and heads of various centres to take a lead in expanding the sphere of knowledge to community.
“This course will help the artisans to make their mark in the real market. They will be taught and educated about the new trends in the craft all over world,” he said, adding “It is a very good initiate that DLL is doing with NCPUL. This has to be a good beginning. This will help the artisans to compete at various levels and they will be visible in the large section of the society.”
Prof Shah said that MoUs should be signed with the various institutions across India to organize more such skill development workshops and deliberations.
Director, DLL, Dr. GH Mir said that this course will be soon thrown open for the aspirants.
Speaking at the function, the experts urged that the KU should act as a bridge between the community and academia.
“Papier Mache sector is diminishing day- by- day and no one seems to be bothering about it. We are going to launch various courses in Kashmir,” Director, NCPUL, New Delhi, Dr Khawaja Muhammad Ekram-ud-Din said.
The officials of NCPUL, present on the occasion said that they would provide every sort of help in making the course successful.
