JAMMU, Sept 9: Shiv Sena Bala Saheb Thackeray J&K unit has expressed resentment over non-functioning of electric crematorium in Jammu despite assurance by the officers at the helm.
Addressing media persons here today, Manish Sahni, president J&K Shiv Sena informed that a memorandum demanding installing of gas and electric crematoriums in Jammu was submitted to J&K Lieutenant Governor as well as to the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
Sahni said that for the last nine years, the only electric crematorium in J&K at Jogi Gate in Jammu is in non-functional mode as the authorities are not showing any concern to repair and start it.
“At the same time, a gas crematorium unit, donated by a social organization is also lying packed for the last over two months and the administration is delaying its installation,” he claimed.
Sahni further said that there is filth all-round at Jogi Gate crematorium and the shed built for people has been damaged.
“Due to lack of drainage, this place looks like a pool during rainy season while toilets there are in dilapidated condition,” he further said.
Sahni said that lack of facilities even at the place of performing last rites is shameful and urged the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to intervene.
Shiv Sena Women Wing president, Meenakshi Chibber; general secretary, Vikas Bakshi; vice president, Balwant Singh and youth leader, Rakesh Handa were also present on the occasion.
