JAMMU, Sept 18: Daughters of Panun Kashmir (DoPK) organised the traditional Vitasta Diwas function today. In connection with the celebration of Vitasta Diwas, the birthday of river Vitasta (Jehlum) the members of the Woman Wing of P K assembled on the banks of Rajinder Canal today.
Kashmiri Pandits worship river Vitasta as an incarnation of Mata Parvati and as such the daughters of PK, has been observing the day for the last 30 years on the Ranbir Canal which is a tributary of River Chanderbhaga (Chenab).
The programme was presided over by Virender Raina, president, PK and was attended by the other prominent activists. Vimla Chrungoo, secretary, DOPK and its senior members Sunita Raina, Santosh Sharma and others were the main activists present in the programme.
Vimla Chrungoo presented the welcome address. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Sameer Bhat convenor, PK youth. An Aarti was observed with flower petals and the lighting of earthen lamps that were later immersed in the Ranbir canal by the members of DoPK and also the PK leaders present on the occasion.
The Convenor PK youth., Sameer Bhat administered the oath to the audience to keep the struggle of Homeland alive and vibrant.
In connection with the Vitasta Day a special programme was organised by Sharda Radio 90.4 under the chairmanship of Ramesh Hangloo, president Pir Panchal in which many community intellectuals and scholars participated and highlighted the religious significance of the Day as per Neelmat Puran.
