‘Bye-Bye Plastic’ campaign conducted

JAMMU, Sept 29: “Bye-Bye Plastic”, an awareness campaign against the use of plastic was held at Canal Head Jammu today.
The campaign was organized by the NSS unit of the Government College of Education in collaboration with its Nature Club. Poornima Sharma, Deputy Mayor, Surinder Choudhary, Corporator and Atul Kumar Gupta, Secretary JMC and Nodal Officer SBMU were among others present on the occasion.
On the occasion, all the dignitaries and NSS volunteers of GCOE gave away jute bags to the people to send a message to the public on their responsibility in joining the fight against plastic and using jute and other eco-friendly bags while going on shopping instead of depending on plastic bags.
Addressing the gathering and all dignitaries, Dr Shubhra Jamwal, NSS Programme Officer suggested various ways to reduce plastic use and stop plastic from reaching landfills. She also said that the use of plastic is a threat to the coming generation.
Dr Kulvinder Kour, Principal of GCOE, explained the harmful effects of using plastic. She said that citizens should be aware of their responsibilities towards the environment.
Prof Shapia Shameem Bhatti, Prof Seema Kumari, Prof Sarita Dogra and Dr Shalini Sharma were also present at the event.
