Cong protests, demands release of Priyanka

SRINAGAR/JAMMU, Oct 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today staged strong protest demonstration at Srinagar and Jammu against detention of Priyanka Gandhi by UP Police and sought her immediate release.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Ghulam Ahmad Mir led the protest of hundreds of party workers and leaders at Srinagar against the detention of Priyanka Gandhi at Sitapur in UP.
Amid slogans against the UP Govt and Modi Govt at the Centre, Congress leaders and workers led by Mir staged protest and demanded stern action against the UP Police for arresting Gandhi, who was going to meet families of slain farmers, but was detained, without any reason. Click here to watch video
Congress leaders and workers were forcibly stopped by police at Maulana Azad Road, Srinagar but they continued to protest against the high handedness of police. JKPCC president along with dozens of leaders and workers were detained by police and lodged in Police Station.
Prior to the detention, PCC president addressed party workers at Srinagar party office and lashed out at Centre Govt and UP Govt for the political vendetta against the Congress leaders to hide their anti-farmers and anti-people policies. Mir said Congress party won’t be cowed down by the barbarism and illegal detentions, rather it will further strengthen our resolve to fight against BJP, which was responsible for the crisis across country. He demanded immediate release of Priyanka Gandhi and action against those responsible for the killing of farmers.
In Jammu, Congress party leaders and activists led by senior leaders- Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram , Yogesh Sawhney and others held a strong protest demonstration and sought immediate release of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra-AICC general secretary in UP.
The senior Congress leaders held a strong protest demonstration outside PCC office Shahidi Chowk Jammu demanding immediate release of AICC general secretary, Incharge Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi who is currently lodged at Sitapur guest house after being prevented from reaching Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the victims’ families.
Speaking on the occasion Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla said that Priyanka was going to meet families who lost their loved ones in yesterday’s violence. It is totally unfair to stop them for discharging duty. They added that the BJP Government’s inhuman face has come to the fore. It is undemocratic to ignore the demands of the farmers, stalling the farmers movement, oppressing them and then not allowing any opposition party to stand with them.
Prominent among others leading protest included -Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, Hari Singh Chib, Indu Pawar (Ex-MLA), Uday Bhanu Chib (PYC), Pankaj Dogra, Shashi Sharma, Pawan Raina, Thomas Khokhar, Karan Bhagat, Sanjeev Sharma, Suresh Dogra and Dwaraka Choudhary.
Meanwhile, J&K Mahila Congress Unit led by its president Indu Pawar held strong protest at Satwari Chowk this evening. They were raising slogans against UP Govt and BJP, demanding immediate release of Priyanka Gandhi. The protesting activists disrupted movement of traffic for some time but police ensured speedy restoration.
