Srinagar, Oct 13: The engineers that were engaged under the ‘Self Help Group of Engineers Scheme’ (SHGES) today staged a protest against the administration seeking restoration of the scheme without any further delay.
A number of such engineers appeared in the Press Enclave holding placards, urging the LG-led administration to restore the scheme that was abolished in August 2020 without any consultations.
Syed Pervaiz Hussian, State President of the Association representing the engineers in J&K said that after one year, due to the callous and indifferent approach of the administration, they have been forced to come out on the streets.
He said that the scheme under which around 15 thousand engineers were engaged across J&K was abolished without any consultations, knowledge of the stakeholders. He went ahead on saying that the concerned Advisor Farooq Khan was not aware of the move.
“We ask the administration as to why the scheme which is ‘Atmanirbhar’ in nature was abolished; we have been forced to come out on roads due to the inaction about our demands and to make sure that our demand is met, we are going to intensify the protest across the Union Territory,” he said.
The President of the Association said that the Government formed a Committee to look into the matter and was asked to submit a report for the future course of action concerning the scheme.
“The committee submitted its report, but for the last 5 months, the Government has not bothered to have a look at it and take the necessary decision,” he said, adding “Don’t they have time to see to it so that the scheme is restored?”
The aggrieved engineers have appealed to LG, Chief Secretary as well as the Financial Commissioner to look into the matter so that the scheme is restored in its original form without any further delay.
