JAMMU, Oct 18: Former MLA from Ramban, Ashok Sharma led a strong protest of local people at Paribasi Kanga (Ramban) against the Jal Shakti (PHE) department and urged upon the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir UT to immediately provide drinking water facilities at every house of Ramban constituency.
In a statement issued here, Ex-MLA said many villages in Ramban constituency are deprived of drinking water facilities despite of abundance of natural water streams. Jal Shakti Abhiyan is only on papers and policies however, people have to travel 3 Kms to fetch water for basic domestic needs on everyday basis.
Ashok said that the hand pumps installed during the UPA Government have not been serviced and checked as a result are non-functional. The hand pumps were the lifelines for many poor people. He urged upon the Chief Engineer Jal Shakti to immediately restore the non-functional hand pumps.
He further said that the successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir have ignored the far flung area of Ramban in providing basic water facilities to the poor people of Ramban. The water infrastructure requires huge investments to establish strong and sustainable future. However, Ramban area has been side-lined by the successive concerned ministries.
Ashok has stressed upon the Lieutenant Governor of J&K UT to direct the concerned authorities of Ramban district to immediately provide the water facilities at every house of Ramban constituency.
