3 drug peddlers arrested with poppy straw, cannabis

SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Police today arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Awantipora, a police party from Pampore at a checkpoint established at Literabal intercepted two persons riding a scooty bearing registration number JK13F-1366.
“They have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rehman Bhat, resident of Nihama Kakapora and Abdul Hamid Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, resident of Kadlabal Pampore,” police said.
Police said that during checking, 13 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from their possession. “They have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. Scooty used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”
Similarly, Police Station Kulgam received specific information that a person namely Bashir Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Gani Mir, resident of Hadigam has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance at his residential house.
On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Kulgam under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kulgam along with the Executive Magistrate raided the specific location.
“During the search, police recovered 6.5Kgs of dried cannabis from the house. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station,” police said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stand registered in respective police stations.
