SRINAGAR, Oct 22: On the occasion of Friday following Eid-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), thousands of devotees attended the prayers at Hazratbal shrine that houses the Holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to have a glimpse it.
The Eid-e-Milad (SAW), the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was observed on Tuesday with religious fervour.
On Friday following today, the congregational prayers were held at various shrines and Masjids across the Valley while the main gathering was held at Hazratbal Dargah shrine here where the devotees from different parts of the Valley participated in the special prayers.
The special arrangements were made in wake of the COVID-19 with Waqf officials informing that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were followed in letter and spirit.
The devotees said that the holy relic at the Hazratbal shrine was displayed after every prayer today.
Meanwhile, seminars and programmes were organized in Masjids and shrines today in which the Islamic clerics threw light on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
However, the historic Jamia Masjid, which usually witnesses a huge gathering on the Friday following of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), remained closed.
Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar today said that even on the following Friday, authorities did not allow the Muslims to perform an important duty like Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
The Anjuman in a statement expressed strong resentment over the continuous detention of its head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who is under house arrest for the last 26 months, due to which he is unable to carry out his peaceful activities as a social, religious and political leader and also the official responsibilities the Institution of Mirwaiz enjoins upon him.
Authorities and police forcibly closed the grand mosque for Friday prayers before the Adhan (call for prayer) thereby disallowing Muslims from fulfilling their religious obligations, the Anjuman said in a statement, adding that this is a sheer interference in religious affairs and such actions hurt the sentiments of Muslims.
The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed outrage over the dictatorial attitude of the authorities and condemned it in strong terms.
Meanwhile, a resolution was passed by Jammu and Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) against the continued ban on Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar and was ratified by the public during the Friday prayer gatherings today in mosques, shrines, imambaras, and other major places of worship across J&K.
