JAMMU, Oct 27: As a part of Iconic Week Festival being organised under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with Divisional and District Administration Jammu, today organised a Walkthone involving students and youth to promote the heritage tourism corridor of City of Temples Jammu.
Mayor Jammu, Chander Mohan Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion, who flagged off the heritage tourism walk from Tourism Reception Centre Jammu.
The Walkthone started from the TRC and after passing through various temples including Raghunath Temple, Ranbireshwar Temple, Ram Mandir, Balram Temple, Gadhadhar Temple, Panjbakhter Temple culminated at Peerkho Temple Jammu.
The objective of the rally was to update the youngster about the history of the Jammu city (City of temples)
Chander Mohan Gupta, while interacting with media persons, said that the administration is focusing on the promotion of Heritage tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. He said several initiatives have been taken by the government to promote all potential sites and areas of the region. He lauded the efforts of the Tourism department for organising a series of events to promote the tourism sector in J&K.
Deputy Mayor Jammu, Purnima Sharma; Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Anshul Garg; Director Tourism Jammu, Vivekanand Rai; ACG, Rakesh Dubey besides other officers and officials of Tourism and other concerned departments were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, serene environs of Mahamaya neighborhood buzzed with activity as a huge number of visitors thronged the area to be part of a special event organized by Directorate of Tourism Jammu and Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation to promote Bahu-Mahamaya-Peerkho Gondola ride.
The event organized as part of the Iconic Festival Week witnessed a scintillating cultural programme featuring folk music and dance by local cultural troupes and the artists of J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages.
The programme began with Mata Ka Bhajan by Asha Kessar, famous Dogri Singer of Jammu and Kashmir. Jakson dance group presented a dance performance, while Babu Ram and Kaloo Devi troupe also presented melodious Dogri Folk songs. The Cable Car Corporation had also offered a special discount on the Gondola Ride Ticket to attract the Tourists and Local visitors.
Deputy Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation, Purnima Sharma was the chief guest and Vikas Gupta, Director Handloom and Handicraft was guest of honour on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest said that the motive of holding Iconic Festival aims at attracting maximum tourist footfall and to promote potential tourism destinations in each district and city of Jammu and Kashmir. She said Jammu city with its rich heritage and culture can act as a nerve center to attract tourists and divert them to other potential destinations of the region. “Bahu-Mahamaya-Peerkho Gondola ride has added another tourist attraction to the City of temples which needs to be widely promoted”, she added.
Talking to Media persons, Director Tourism, Vivekanad Rai said that the objective of the iconic week festival was to showcase the varied tourism potential of Jammu region.
