Tributes paid to martyrs of 1947 at Qila Darhal

NOWSHERA, Oct 28: Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of Qila Darhal, who fought against Pakistani raiders during 1947 and laid down their lives for the country.
A grand function is held every year on October 28 to commemorate the day, to remember and pay tributes to the civilian martyrs who laid down their lives to defend their country and had repulsed the attack by the Pakistani raiders in 1947-48.
In the memory of all martyrs civil & Army men who attained supreme sacrifice, Akhand Path was held at local Gurdwara. Tributes ceremony was held at war memorial Shaheed Garh Qila Darhal at the place of memorial (civilians & personnel from security forces from the area) at Qila Darhal where besides hundreds of civilians, army, civil, police officers paid their tributes to the martyrs.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Brigade Commander Nowshera Commanding Officer of 54 RR Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Nowshera Sukhdev Singh Additional District Magistrate Sunderbani Vinod Kumar Benhal, additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nowshera Amit Kumar, Naib Tehsildar Qila Darhal Ashok Kumar president of Gurdwara Sahib war memorial Shaheed Garh Qila Darhal Shawinder Singh Khalsa & other committee members Gurcharan Singh, Harvinder Singh, Ravinder Singh, Rajvir Singh, Karnail Singh also paid rich tributes to the martyrs and also felicitated the some families.
In 1947-48 many deserters from Maharaja’s of J&K army joined the Pakistani invaders and attacked the fort at Darhal (Qila Darhal) in Nowshera Sub Divison. A few Sikh warriors under the command of Jathedar Ram Singh and Ex-Subedar Ranjeet Singh fought fierce battle with Pakistani intruders who were forced to free.
In this battle Jathedar Ram Singh and his colleagues namely Hukam Singh, Sohan Singh, Suchan Singh and Pritam Singh also attained martyrdom and hundreds of enemies Pak Pathans were killed in this battle. The brave Sikhs continue to defend the Darhal Fort with limited resources till the Indian army reached on 15 November 1947 and saved Nowshera, Rajouri and Poonch area from enemies.
